Welcome to The Paperweight! We are a teen-run and directed online news journal with a mission to spread the truth, inspire justice, and create political awareness. All of our articles are written by creative, opinionated, strong high school students from around the globe.
Our name, "The Paperweight," is inspired by George Orwell's 1984. In Orwell's novel, the protagonist, Wilson, purchases a small paperweight. The antiquated paperweight has no place in the dystopian, language-erasing society Wilson finds himself in. That is why, upon examining it pensively, Wilson finds the paperweight to be a reminder of a time before censorship, a time when expression and reality were tangible, and not manipulated. This symbolic meaning of Wilson's paperweight reflects the mission of our news journal. We aim to not only share truthful stories and events, but also unique personal opinions and ideas.
